June 25, 2011 SUNDAY - Congressman Gutierrez Challenges Obama's Deportation Policy at Seattle EventThe Obama administration has deported even more people than the Bush administration. This trend does not sit very well with many in Washington State, including nearly 900 resident who are heading at Town Hall in Seattle on Sunday at 1:30pm - bused in from across the state, including Mount Vernon, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, and Yakima - to send President Obama a message that he has the power under existing law to change deportation policy. OneAmerica is bringing Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL), a national leader in the Hispanic community, to Seattle to spotlight the toll that almost 400,000 deportations annually are taking on American children and families. WHAT: Public meeting with Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (En Español) Gutierrez is one of an increasing number of Congressional Democrats challenging President Obama’s record deportations and problematic enforcement programs like "Secure Communities" in which 12 Washington State counties recently expressed interest in joining. The event also features Washington State families and youth telling stories of how their families were split up due to current enforcement policies.
